How is the collection cataloged / recorded?



I work for Oracle Corporation on the Database Advanced Problem Resolution team so I am somewhat embarrased to say that I use Microsoft Access to catalog the collection






Here is the layout of the table in which the dice descriptions are stored




DESCRIPTION OF COLUMNS


QTY - QUANTITY of the dice described in the row in the database

     It would be too time consuming to detail all characteristics of every die in the database as a result often dice
          from the same game are grouped into a single row

     For example ... This Set 

                                of  20 dice are required for the game called Railroad Dice by Wassertal Spieleverlag





OPAQ - Describes the OPACITY of the die



     Value ranges with examples

    * CLEAR
    * OPAQUE
    * TRANSLUCENT
    * BOTH (Clear and Opaque)



COLOR - Describes the background / body color of the die



SIZE - Describes the size in decimal inches ... and sometimes in terms such as HUGE ... LARGE ... TINY
                for dice that are hard to measure ... such as irregular shaped dice



MATERIAL - Describes the material of which the die is made

     *  Bakelite      
     *  Bone      
     *  Candy      
     *  Celluloid      
     *  Eraser

     *  Formalith

SIDES - Number of sides the die has



PIP COLOR -  Describes the color of the pips / spots / words / symbols or other idicia of the die



STYLE - Describes the style of the die

     At the time of the writing of this page ... there were 92 styles

     Style describes such things as:

     * The style of the background colors ... SWIRL .... IRIDESCENT
     * The function of the die FOOTBALL ... SKATEBOARD ... PRECISION (Casino) ... CROWN & ANCHOR
     * Further defining things such as MATERIAL with CHOCOLATE
     * Describe a unique characteristic such as LIGHTED or WEIGHTED



SHARPNESS - Describes how sharp the edges/corners of the die are



     Value ranges with examples

     * Beveled edges
     * Corners Rounded
     * Rounded Edges
     * Sharp Edges
     * Indescribable
     * Razor Edges



LOCATION - Describes where the die can be found (ie in which box or loose)    



BRAND - Describes the BRAND of the die

     This can be either the manufacturer or the company for which the die was made



DESCRIPTION - This is a large column that allows for a much more detailed description

     Examples:

              Descripton of each side of the die



              Describes this die Dice : METAL STEEL D8 01 HORSE RACE

              For Casino dice ... Description includes all verbage on the die including serial #'s ... and its cancellation



              Describes this die Dice : CASINO APACHE NUGGET 01



IN - Describes what if anything the dice are packaged / stored in within the storage container

     * Bag

     * Leather Box

     * Other ... Combination packs like Bag and Hang Tag

ID -  For those who know relational databases ... this is the Primary Key and Row ID



INVENT - This is the date on which the die was last inventoried



PHOTOTED - This tells whether the die has been photographed for the website
