CONTEST RATING by Kevin Cook

There were a lot of WONDERFUL designs/ideas submitted

Here is how I rated them

Visual Appeal = How pleasing do I find the design (
1=Worst 10=Best)
Complexity = How complex (hard) do I think the design would be to mass produce (1=Easy 10=Very Hard)
Overall Rating = My overall feelings for the Design
(1=Worst 10=Best)

I 'normalized' the photos so as to not be infulenced by the presentation
(with the exceptions of the modeling by
Thomas Pasieka
)

Alvin Helms
VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : I like the mixing of Arabic - Kanji - Roman and Binary ... but I am afraid it
would be too hard to read once reduced to 16mm

Great design for anyone desiring obscurly numbered dice (like ME)

Alvin Helms VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : This is much better ... BUT I would like to see a design that could
mix more than just two numeric designations (Kanji + Arabic)

Bartosz Pawelczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 7
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 7
COMMENTS            : Ok design ... I like the non standard numbering ... but I think the pentagrams
would not be recognizable at 16mm

This could be a must for Werewolf (White Wolf) players

Bartosz Topolczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 6
COMPLEXITY         : 8
OVERALL RATING : 6
COMMENTS            : I am not sure I even understand the numbering on this one ... but the existing
RUNIC graphics could be used for the borders ... If a die's numering
system is not immediately intuitive ... at least to some ... it would not be
a big seller in my opinion

I could see D&D Viking campaigners liking this die

Caroline Lundin VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Simple elegant design ... I like the italicized numbers ... but I think the
flowers may not show up at 16mm

I would think that this design could find uses outside of the gaming realm

Dominik Bialczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 5
OVERALL RATING : 9
COMMENTS            : I would think that this would be easy to make ... the 3,4,&6  sides needs to
                                          be more symetric

                                     This design looks Klingonesque

Jan Machalski VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 4
OVERALL RATING : 7
COMMENTS            : Another design that I think would be simple to make ... but it is too simple

Again ... another easily read ... alternative numbering die that could find
                                        a home in any game

Jan Machalski VISUAL APPEAL     : 3
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 3
COMMENTS            :  Too primitive (In my opinion ... sorry)

This may find some use in dice for children

Jan Machalski VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : I like this 'angry mob' design ... It seems a bit hard to read though

Looks like a die for any game that could have angry mobs

Jochem van Hoogstraten VISUAL APPEAL     : 10
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Although the design is very elegant ... it seems to busy / crouded
The eye is drawn to the design rather than the pips themselves

If there were/are Aztec/Mayan/Totec/Olmec etc games I would think
                                           these would be a MUST

Marcin Oszczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 5
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : I would consider this for future production ... the pip layout is innovative and
the overall design is complex without being too 'busy'

I could see this design selling in boardgames ... not related to the
                                        RPG / WG industry

Marcin Oszczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Great design ... only problem is ... I had to look several times to tell that
these were flowers ... I thought they were 'fireballs' at first ... and second
                                      examination

Like the other plant / flower design above ... this could find use outside
of the RPG / WG industry

Marcin Oszczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 7
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Nice design ... I wonder ... does the border mean something?

I am not really sure who would like this design (besides ME)

Moa Ranhalder VISUAL APPEAL     : 10
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING :  9.5
COMMENTS            : This is my personal favorite ... I think it may be hard to get all the details
The Rorschach design was immediately recognizable (at least to me)
The pips were just an added bonus

I could see this design as a companion to Cthulhu ... Paranoia ... or any
                                         other psychology based thriller game

Moa Ranhalder VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Great design ... I dont understand the backwards 1, 4 and 6 though

If the numbers were not mirrored ... this could be FOREST II

Moa Ranhalder VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : All I can say is WOW! ... I think this is great ... but I am afraid it wont
                                      render well at 16mm size

I could see a 'classed based' or even 'weapon class' series of dice coming
out of this if the design could be simplified ...
ie Fighter (Swords) / Mage (Staff and Dagger) etc

Pawe³ Hachaj VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Again a great design ... but I think it may not be scalable to 16mm size
I am glad to see someone doing Celtic ... as it seems to have been a
                                     neglected area

If there is / are Celtic / Irish / Cuchulainn based games ... this would be
                                        a must

Przemek Nowaczyk VISUAL APPEAL     : 8
COMPLEXITY         : 6
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            : Elegant ... but simple ... :)

I think if the daggers and bows & arrows were larger this design could
have a lot of appeal to medeval / fantasy gamers

Radek Chodorowski VISUAL APPEAL     :  9
COMPLEXITY         : 10
OVERALL RATING :  8
COMMENTS            : The desgin is stunning ... but I think is overly complex and would not
                                      be recognizable at 16mm

Another design that I really like ... but am unsure who else would

Thomas Pasieka VISUAL APPEAL     : 10
COMPLEXITY         : 6
OVERALL RATING : 9
COMMENTS            :  Simple easy to read design ... Great design for tabletop generals

I would think that any modern (or future) warfare games would like this
                                         design

Thomas Pasieka VISUAL APPEAL     : 9
COMPLEXITY         : 9
OVERALL RATING : 8
COMMENTS            :  I really like this design (3rd favorite)... the problem is ... getting the bullseyes
to from 3 intersecting sides to line up ... I understand that this is quite hard to
                                      do

This design would be something for any game that uses higher tech
                                       weapons with scopes

Tomasz Ptasznik VISUAL APPEAL     : 10
COMPLEXITY         : 10
OVERALL RATING :  7
COMMENTS            : This is my second favorite ... but unfortunately ... to get the foreground
background effect is hard to do in a single color and as such ... I dont
think this 'Golem' die could be made

This is a wonderful design for Lord of the Rings / Fantasy gamers

My recommendations for Production by Q-Workshop

#1 Thomas Pasieka's first design with the Dogtags ... with the number of modern / future based wargames and RPG's ... I would think this would sell well

#2
Marcin Oszczyk's design could be used with any game and is a new alternative to the standard pipped d6
